“When we were announced as overall winners of the County Enterprise Award on the night in Cashel, it was an amazing feeling, especially when we knew the standard and level of competition across the county. It took a day or so to sink in that we were now going up against the rest of the country, representing Tipperary, which is a great honour in itself, but equally a great responsibility which we’re really looking forward to taking on”.
Set up in 2001 by Portroe native Donal, Echo IT has grown steadily to become one of the region’s leading Professional IT Support, Sales and Service providers. “We’ve always strived to provide a holistic, down to earth approach to IT, to allow everyone from the home user to large organisations”.
In recent years, Echo IT has diversified into the area of rural broadband, while also maintaining their core business of selling and repairing laptops and PCs, while maintaining IT logistics for a growing number of clients. “ It felt like a natural progression for the business, as we had a lot of customers from rural areas, whose machines we sold to them or were repairing, that were complaining of poor or non-existent internet. It’s been successful for us in Nenagh and surrounding areas, and now we are supplying to areas around Thurles, but we’re constantly trying to find ways of improving the service and expand to new areas.”
Representing Tipperary won’t be a completely new experience for the business, as for the last two years, they have been sponsors of Tipperary’s under age Camogie teams, with the Under 16 team winning last years All Ireland and the minors being narrowly defeated in this year’s decider. “It’s great for us to put something back into local sport and into the future college graduates and workers of the county, we’re very proud of their achievements.”
All county nominees for this year’s National Enterprise Awards were revealed at a ‘Business Masterclass’ at The Heritage Hotel in County Laois, by the network of Local Enterprise Offices.
The National Enterprise Awards is now in its 18th year and has a €20,000 prize fund on offer, aiming to recognise the impressive achievements of small local businesses throughout the country. The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton T.D. will be announcing the overall winner on Thursday, June 11th at an awards ceremony at Dublin’s Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Let’s hope that Echo IT can bring back the first of the county’s successes this summer.
